Facing Off
MAXIMS
- Anticipate the whistle, explode, stay low, and keep your eyes on the ball. Concentrate on technique.
- Foot placement of the stance is an individual preference. Balance, not comfort, is necessary for a good stance.
- Use your hips and backside to move your opponent off the ball.
- Work hard to develop upper body strength.
- Whenever possible, scoop the ball with two hands on the stick.
- Communication between the face-off man and his teammates on the wings is essential.
- Do not attempt to scoop the ball too soon. Get your body in position and push or kick the ball to an open area.
- Be ready to pass immediately after gaining control of the ball.
- Do not be too predictable. Master one technique, but be able to execute counter moves if you are having trouble.
- Be quick. Stay balanced. Be aggressive and always persistent.
